Artist’s Statement
While concern with formal values in design such as line, shape, pattern in the creation of evocative forms is the primary focus of my work, I have become intrigued with the intrinsic intensity of color and the particular quality of effects obtained in the use of poured plastic.
I have had a long fascination with the enigma of creation and the wonder of our existence. The singular attribute of suggested depth in the void of space obtained by color suspended in semi-transparent plastic over a fine grained white plastic ground induces, for me, that same awareness in the mystery of the unknown. As in works of art I have especially appreciated over the years by certain artists, with the addition of subtleties inherent in the new medium of plastic, perhaps salient forms might take on a metaphysical symbolic presence known only to each individual viewer and, on occasion, invoke a satisfying transcendent awareness beyond commonplace experience.
